Got a cold? Check your humidity in your home!<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Suffering from a stuffy nose? Keep moisture levels in the home<\/u><\/a>. Many people don't realize that the humidity of the air in your home can affect your health, especially your nose. But how is this related and what can you do to protect yourself from a cold?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your nose is a powerful part of your face. Not only does it serve as an olfactory organ, but it also filters, moisturizes and warms the air you breathe. The cilia in your nose trap as much as 95% of pollutant particles, such as dust, viruses and bacteria. As a result, the nasal mucosa acts as a first line of defense against pathogens, which is essential for preventing colds.<\/p>\n

However, hot and dry air poses a threat to your nose. Especially in the colder months, the indoor environment can become too hot and dry due to lack of ventilation and excessive heating. This leads to dehydration of your nasal mucosa, allowing viruses to enter more easily and making you more susceptible to colds.<\/p>\n

Simple ways to maintain humidity in the home:<\/strong><\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Ventilate regularly:<\/strong> Provide continuous ventilation by keeping vents open, for example. Just opening all the windows and doors and then closing them again is not effective because the fresh air quickly disappears.<\/li>\n
  2. Use a hygrometer:<\/strong> Use a hygrometer to check that the humidity in your home is within the ideal range of 40 to 60%. A humidifier can help increase humidity levels, and plants also contribute to healthier humidity.<\/li>\n
  3. Moderate the use of heating:<\/strong> Prevent the temperature in the house from getting too high, 20 to 21\u00b0C maximum. At night, the heating can be turned down or even off, especially in the bedroom where a temperature between 15 and 20\u00b0C is ideal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Another solution: have a stationary humidifier installed<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    A more permanent solution for a healthy indoor environment is to install a humidifier directly to your WTW ventilation system. With this, you can keep the humidity in your home stable between 40 and 60%.<\/p>\n
